There is an epidemic of young boys who lack the desire to read. I believe that a social media campaign, specifically on Instagram, would be the best to spread the message that reading is an amazing activity. I believe Instagram is the best because most of the U of D student body is on the platform, so my message can reach the most amount of people. Because most students passively scroll through Instagram, when they see a post of a book, they can share it on their story for other people to see or save/screenshot it for later.
However, the important part is the way content will be shared. The account will run on a submission system where U of D students and faculty are encouraged to submit any books or articles they may have found interesting. The faculty and students posting can get those who are not reading as often to get inspired by seeing what their fellow Cubs are reading. The posts will contain a picture of the book they are reading as well as an image of the environment of the person reading the book. These images can be one reading in their bedroom or in the park. The post also includes a small description of the book and gives a reason why one should read it. An example of a post would be me posting an image of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The next image would be an image of me reading the book at a cafe. In the caption, I would say, "Today's book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, I have been rereading the series and this is by far my favorite one. It is the highest stakes with the introduction of the Tri-Wizard tournament and the looming threat of Voldemort. As well as great character moments between Harry and his friends, this one is a must-read! -Jaxson Douglas Grade 12 4B"
Posts will be made every Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. All posts will be made at 7:30 a.m. so the guys can see the recommendation for the day before school or early enough for people to wake up to a new post. There aren't any daily posts because I want every post to have time to be shared and seen before the next one. Posts start on Sunday, I want people to be able to start the week with a great book recommendation and possibly get the book for the week. Tuesday and Thursday posts are for midweek updates for people who were probably not entranced by the first book. Finally, the Saturday post is for giving people a good book for the weekend and for those who didn't like the last three books. This schedule gives good time for each post to shine but it also gives a good variety of literature. It also gives time for submissions to come in and for me to come up with literature for my own posts. I still need to generate posts myself to show my dedication to the project.
Finally, the hashtag for the movement will be #cubsreadingden. The hashtag plays into the theme of our school mascot and it gives the feeling of community with the account because everyone is contributing to the movement and spreading the message.
I love the hashtag, do you think that you'll also post on other social medias?
ReplyDeleteWould you format it the same way as other student run accounts?
DeleteI could extend the same format of posts to Twitter as well and also post updates on Snapchat
DeleteI believe they will to Adam
DeleteHow will the submissions work? Will students dm the account or will there be something like a Google Form?
ReplyDeleteI will begin by asking my friends and close faculty to inspire other students to submit themsleves.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of staggering the posts so that everyone can see them
