Literacy Project Reflection

 Project:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          I chose to do a social media campaign that gave reading suggestions from people around the High. This is because social psychologists have found that individuals' behavior can be influenced by the behavior of others in a group. It also gives a great variety of suggestions because every student has different tastes. There are so many studies that say reading helps with memory, sleep, vocabulary, general knowledge, stress, and many other things! Audiobooks can also give many similar benefits and are less strenuous on the eyes. Many amazing entertainment experiences have come from literature so I really want to let the students and faculty know that instead of turning on Netflix, they have another option.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              
Design:                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              I wanted to do a simple but recognizable Instagram account that rides off of UofD's presence on the app. Each post had a full picture of the book, a picture of the person candidly reading the book, and finally a small description of the book with the person's opinion followed by the hashtag of the account: #cubsreadingden. The schedule for posting would be every other day starting on Sunday and ending on Saturday. This would give time for every post to shine. 
 
Reflection:     

Though I did not keep the schedule, I was able to make the week's worth of posts and I believe that with more time the account could grow and reach more people. I really like the titles shown by the first posts and I intend to check them all out at some point even though, as of right now, I am not a very big reader. I will continue to accept submissions for the account for the time being and update it, especially if I find a good book I couldn't help but share. As long as the account is up, Cubs can always come to check it out for a good book recommendation.

       There is an epidemic of young boys who lack the desire to read. I believe that a social media campaign, specifically on Instagram, would be the best to spread the message that reading is an amazing activity. I believe Instagram is the best because most of the U of D student body is on the platform, so my message can reach the most amount of people. Because most students passively scroll through Instagram, when they see a post of a book, they can share it on their story for other people to see or save/screenshot it for later.       However, the important part is the way content will be shared. TED Talk Reflection

What I Knew:     I knew the general state of the animation industry. Because of this, I knew there was a stigma against the medium that it was meant for children despite the many mature animated works. I was also aware of the general lack of respect animation faces at award shows like the Oscars and I also was aware that there has yet to be an animated movie to win best picture. Finally, I was aware of the rapid cancelation of many shows across streaming platforms as Inside Job, one of the mentioned shows, was canceled and I was very distraught.
