Fantasy/Science Fiction

 

1. I love to read fantasy. It allows me to look into a world I always wanted to, or see a world that I had never even considered could be real. There can be a story about a rubbery pirate trying to be king, a young boy who was bred for space travel, or a young boy and his shapeshifting dog helping people across the world. The possibilities are endless! It is also the medium I love writing in, I love seeing what kind of characters, concepts, or symbolisms I can come up with to form different narratives and a whole story. Since fantasy allows for infinite creative possibilities, there are so many ways and places to find inspiration for your own writing (I know I have), or find out how to tackle problems in your real life. 


If I could go anywhere, I would honestly have to pick the world of Pokémon. I have been a fan of the series since I was nine and always imagined going on a journey to be the very best like no one ever was. I watched the show and still play the games and I used to wonder what my team would be and what strategies I would use if I were fully in control. Also, collecting the Pokémon and filling up a Poke-Dex and getting to know these fascinating creatures would be incredibly fun.

       There is an epidemic of young boys who lack the desire to read. I believe that a social media campaign, specifically on Instagram, would be the best to spread the message that reading is an amazing activity. I believe Instagram is the best because most of the U of D student body is on the platform, so my message can reach the most amount of people. Because most students passively scroll through Instagram, when they see a post of a book, they can share it on their story for other people to see or save/screenshot it for later.       However, the important part is the way content will be shared. The account will run on a submission system where U of D students and faculty are encouraged to submit any books or articles they may have found interesting. TED Talk Reflection

What I Knew:     I knew the general state of the animation industry. Because of this, I knew there was a stigma against the medium that it was meant for children despite the many mature animated works. I was also aware of the general lack of respect animation faces at award shows like the Oscars and I also was aware that there has yet to be an animated movie to win best picture. Finally, I was aware of the rapid cancelation of many shows across streaming platforms as Inside Job, one of the mentioned shows, was canceled and I was very distraught.
